Alyssa Bustamante Plea

Yesterday Alyssa Bustamante was back in court in Cole County Missouri and in a procedure that lasted less than a couple of minutes her lawyer appointed by the court entered a plea of not guilty for the 15 year old teenager. Just last month Alyssa Bustamante was in court and was certified to stand trial as an adult. Standing trial as an adult could mean the 15 year old could get life without parole for the premeditated murder of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten. Elizabeth Olten disappeared after supposedly leaving the home of a playmate on October 19, and her body was found buried in the woods 2 days later after Alyssa Bustamante allegedly confessed to killing Elizabeth and leading police to where the teen had buried her.

Alyssa Bustamante has confessed to planning and murdering a playmate of her cousin’s “just to see what it is like to kill”. Alyssa Bustamante used the day off of school on the Friday before the murder to go into the woods and dig two holes in the ground. Some question whether Alyssa Bustamante intended to kill not one but two people that day. Alyssa Bustamante allegedly made notes or diary entries showing her plan to kill Elizabeth Olten in the days before she carried out her plan of strangling, stabbing and cutting the nine year olds throat and then burying her body in the woods.

Now the teen is represented by a court appointed attorney and the courts are discussing whether to move Alyssa Bustamante’s trial out of Cole County as they feel she cannot get a fair trial there. Alyssa Bustamante like many teens had a social network life and CBS Crimesider has posted pictures of Alyssa Bustamante that one graced the internet. In addition it was previously reported that Alyssa Bustamante had been receiving treatment for depression and had been inpatient at a Missouri hospital.

I am not racist. I work with people who are of all nationalities and religions, yet this video is truly frightening. This was filmed in Dearborn Michigan this summer. What is happening to the United States of America?

Does this concern anyone else?

15 Y/O Juvenile Arrested for Murder of Elizabeth Olten

CNN News says a 15 year old girl has been charged in the murder of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten from Saint Martin’s Missouri. Elizabeth Olten went missing October 21st after calling her home and telling her family she was leaving to walk home. From what is being reported Elizabeth Olten’s death may have been premeditated by this 15 year old female juvenile.

According to CNN News, the police say there is “written evidence” that the murder was premeditated. As Nancy Grace notes premeditated does not mean it was a long planned out murder, and premeditated could mean just minutes or a few hour of preparation. Whether it was a long planned out murder or spontaneous remains unknown.

It is reported that the juvenile who was arrested last week on Friday, is the same juvenile that led the police to Elizabeth Olten’s body buried deep in the woods. CNN reports “authorities received an anonymous letter leading them to the juvenile who lead police to Elizabeth”.

Little is being reported on the 15 year old girl charged with Elizabeth Olten’s murder, although the juvenile has been living in the custody of family members other than parents and the reason is unknown as to why this is the case.

The juvenile may be tried as an adult in Missouri if the courts decide the murder was malicious and preplanned. In Missouri children as young as 12 years of age have been tried as adults in the court system. Today there is a hearing to determine whether the female 15 year old juvenile will remain in custody at detention while awaiting trial.

Seriously I cannot believe this is even an issue if authorities strongly feel she is the murderer of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten. In my mind there are no questions that need to be considered. If this person may have killed once – certainly she should remain in custody at this time for her safety and the safety of everyone else.

Richmond High School Homecoming Dance Ends in Rape

Imagine your high school homecoming dance. The king and queen of homecoming are announced and the crowd cheers and claps and watches as the pair make their way up front to receive their homecoming crowns. Now imagine another couple, this time the couple is having sex…on campus. When you look closer it is not consensual sex but a rape. Just like when there is a fight after school the word quickly spreads about what is happening and where.

Soon, a crowd gathers, at least 15 young men watch while a 15 year old girl is raped, repeatedly. Some of the boys watching will decide to take their turn and also rape the 15 year old girl. Yet, not one of these young men, teen boys, fellow students will think to call for help, or tell a teacher, or dial 911. No one feels any need to try and stop a girl from being raped. What is this world coming to when it is alright to stand around as a young woman is raped at her homecoming dance on school property and no one tried to help?

American’s have become so non-complacent that we are raising a bunch of socio-paths. These same young men that laughed or stared or participated will one day be our leaders, surgeons, teachers, parents, president. This girl will live with what happened to her for the rest of her life. I hope anyone who knew this was happening; who watched it happen and did nothing is never able to go to sleep without first seeing the face of the girl who was brutally attacked by her peers.

Update:
One individual was identified as a previous student of Richmond High School and was detained when he ran from the scene as police officers arrived on the scene just after midnight. This male Manuel Ortega Nineteen-year-old Manuel Ortega is under arrest and believed to be the “leader” of the pack. He is expected to be charged with multiple charges including rape and kidnapping.

Balloon Incident Declared a Hoax

CNN News is reporting that the balloon incident last week in Fort Collins Colorado has been determined by the Sheriff to have been a publicity stunt. The balloon incident involving the Heene family is officially denounced as a hoax. How sad I feel for six year old Falcon Heene. I cannot imagine his emotional turmoil at this time. Falcon has already been placed repeatedly in the spotlight by his parents Richard and Mayumi Heene since the story broke last week when a nation watched anxiously as a BIG silver balloon floated over Colorado, fearing six year old Falcon Heene was possibly onboard.

In the end it was a child’s innocent response to one question that was asked during Larry King Live hosted by Wolf Blitzer that sparked a debate as to whether the whole balloon incident may have been a publicity stunt or hoax. Falcon Heene’s response to the question did you hear mom or dad calling you…lead to “if you heard us calling you why didn’t you come out” asks Richard Heene. Then Falcon looks surprised and confused as he looks at his mom and dad for guidance as he says “because you said we did this for the show”.

At that time Richard Heene became obviously flustered answering “yes” and then trying to get his son to clarify what did “for the show” mean. When his innocent little boy failed to save him, the father turns his anger toward Wolf Blitzer and CNN News saying “I am appalled as to where this line of questioning is leading”.

Falcon Heene will likely deal with deep emotional scars in the years ahead as his parents face legal and monetary issues regarding this incident. I hope Falcon Heene learns soon that it was an adult decision for whatever he was told to do, and adults are the ones responsible for teaching their children right from wrong.

How horrid this boy was made to stay in an attic above the garage by himself while the nation waited in fear as a balloon floated over Fort Collins Colorado. How many lives were endangered in the air and ground search and rescue efforts? How many lives were delayed as planes were diverted around the low flying balloon shaped like a flying saucer shaped balloon on commercial flights? How many thousands of dollars were spent looking for a boy whom his parents knew was safe the whole time and may have taken away from someone who had a real need that day?

I am simply appalled at the audacity of some parents who will use children to play the system. Falcon Heene please know America loves you and is so happy you are safe and sound, and I am so sorry that the adults in your life made bad choices for you and your brothers. For now I will pray for the Heene family as I simply do not know what else to do. I pray that angels fly above, fly below and fly all around the Heene’s, especially Bradford, Ryo, and Falcon in the trying days ahead.

UPDATE:
According to CNN News Mayumi Heene has admitted that her husband Richard Heene built the homemade balloon strictly in preparation for a hoax to make the family more marketable on reality television. The Heene’s instructed all three of their children on what to say to authorities and that their son Falcon was safe at home the whole time.

Halloween Illegal Alien Costume Controversy

A Halloween costume depicting an illegal alien is at the hot seat of controversy according to CNN News. Apparently people with friends who are illegal aliens living in these United States are voicing upset at the costume which sports a familiar orange prison type jumpsuit, the words illegal alien across the back, a space alien mask, and a fake green card. A second version of the costume has an orange jump suit, the words illegal alien across the back, a green card and a space alien mask with a ball cap and a handle bar mustache.

This costume is upsetting the illegal immigrants of our country. Seriously? Who cares! Let me get this political correctness straight for the record… There are illegal aliens (people whom have entered the USA) by sneaking over the border or letting their work visa expire and we are suppose to care that a Halloween costume is offending them? I say tell the illegal aliens that are upset, GO HOME!

According to the article in the Chicago Tribune, The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, known as CHIRLA, “began receiving e-mails from concerned legal immigrants on Friday” and CHIRLA “wrote a letter asking several retailers, including Target, Walgreens, and Amazon, to stop offering the costume”.

One man interviewed for the story was Guillermo Iglesias. Mr. Iglesias, found the costume offensive “because it depicted illegal immigrants as not one of us.” Apparently both his parents were illegal immigrants, and he has several illegal immigrant friends in the USA. Honestly… I think a judge should request a court-order to check Mr. Iglesias’ cell phone records and emails and deport those illegal immigrant friends of his living here. The truth be told Mr. Iglesias, illegal immigrants are not one of us. Those of us whom are residents of the United States are here legally. THAT is the way it should be.

Jay Leno had previously commented about illegal immigration and Homeland Security, “You read about all these terrorists, most of them came here legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10-15 years. Now, compare that to Blockbuster, you’re two days late with a video and those people are all over you. Let’s put Blockbuster in charge of immigration”!
Does anyone else find this is ridiculously insane that we are worried about upsetting those people who are here illegally? Grow up America; this politically correct BS is turning America into a land of wussies!

Richard Heene Faces Charges From Police or FAA

Richard and Mayumi Heene spent several hours at the Sheriff’s department Saturday being re-questioned regarding the incident earlier this week involving one of Richard’s experiments. According to CNN News, charges may be filed against Richard or Mayumi by police as early as Sunday. Questions remain about what exactly may have happened when Richard Heene’s flying saucer type Mylar silver balloon went airborne from the Heene’s backyard.

Other questions have come to light and remain unanswered since the couple’s six year old son Falcon Heene made a comment about “you said we did this for the show.” After that comment Richard Heene appeared very uncomfortable with further questioning by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer who was hosting the Larry King Live Show at the time.

The story about Falcon Heene possibly being inside the unmanned aircraft and flying solo over Colorado caused many people to stop their daily activities and stand vigilantly watching the story unfold on CNN and the internet. Air and ground rescues costing thousands and endangering many lives were initiated to track the balloon and then to search for the boy who was not inside the balloon at the time it landed 2 hours after floating away from the Heene’s Fort Collins Colorado neighborhood.

The balloon was apparently a family project that all the Heene’s worked on at times. Falcon Heene told reporters after “appearing” out of nowhere that he hid in the attic in a box above the family’s garage because “he yelled at me”. He refers to Richard Heene. It was Bradford Heene, Falcon’s older brother who reportedly not only saw, but videotaped Falcon climbing inside the balloon.

At the time the balloon escaped the Heene’s were video taping and the home shot video clearly shows there was no other basket or box underneath the balloon at the time. Why then did Richard or Mayumi Heene not clarify that information while there was great debate and speculation that the box/basket may have fallen off from the balloon, possibly with Falcon Heene inside, after it was airborne.

Additional concerns have been voiced about the many interviews the Heene’s have placed the family in since Falcon was found alive, including two interviews that have caused the boy to vomit while being questioned further about the incident. No one is forcing the Heene’s to be interviewed and the stress it is placing on Falcon is obvious through the television and computer screens.

There are concerns voiced by those who wonder about the Heene’s taking their children into dangerous situations such as chasing storms and tornadoes. The authorities have notified Family Services to further investigate if this activity is appropriate, and safe for the Heene children.

Sunday may prove to be an interesting day depending on the news that is released from authorities in Colorado.

Balloon Boy Story Crashing Quickly

I am overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, and increasingly puzzled as I watch and review an interview conducted by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer interview with the Heene family yesterday after the Heene’s 6 year old son Falcon Heene was found alive and safe inside his home…yet today that story maybe crashing to the ground. No one really knows what exactly happened inside the Heene household yesterday while a nation prayed for and frantically searched for a 6 year old boy believed to be missing and possibly flying over the state of Colorado in a home-made balloon.

The family says that Falcon Heene had been reprimanded earlier in the day and hid in the attic above the garage inside a box. While in the box Falcon says he played with his toys and even took a nap. Yet, when the Heene’s ask Falcon during the interview “did you hear us calling you” and Falcon replies “yes” they seem surprised. Next Falcon is asked “why didn’t you come out or answer when we called you?” Then Falcon appears to look at first his mother and then his father as if looking to his parents for cues before he responds with – “um mm you guys said, um mm we did this for the show.”

It is at this point that Richard Heene stops looking at the camera and stiffens, then becomes very uncomfortable when Wolf Blitzer asks him to clarify with his son what he meant by “we did this for the show.” Richard Heene appears to have a reddening of his face and becomes very uncomfortable with the line of questioning that he feels CNN is leading his son to imply.

“I see where you are going with this line of questioning” Richard Heene tells CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. The link to the video interview is here and I am interested in your opinion if you have already seen it or are just now watching Wolf Blitzer’s interview with the Heene family. I do not by nature wish to doubt anyone’s credibility. Yet, I am wondering if this indeed was a badly planned out publicity stunt?

In reality, if anyone is able to prove this was a publicity stunt, I feel that the Heene’s should be required to pay the state of Colorado every cent that was spent on the frantic search and attempted rescue of their six year old son Falcon Heene. I am sickened as a parent, behavioral medicine RN, and editor of BellaOnline’s Missing and Exploited Children Website to think that adults would endanger their children’s well-being and the caring citizens of Colorado in order to promote their own personal well-being.

I am all too familiar with adults who try to manipulate children for their personal gain and I pray that this is not the case in this situation. Please feel free to comment here after you have viewed the interview between Wolf Blitzer, and the Heene family. I want to know how you feel after hearing the comment made by Falcon and seeing the reaction of his parents. I am thankful Falcon Heene is safe and that the search is over, but I am a little uncomfortable at how quickly the story of Falcon Heene, Colorado’s Balloon Boy is crashing.

Falcon Heene Missing Child Alert

The story began early today when an odd shaped flying object lifted off from a Fort Collins Colorado home possibly with a six year old boy named Falcon Heene inside. The balloon was a work in progress by Falcon Heene’s family. Falcon’s dad Richard Heene apparently loves science and has a website called The Science Detective. Falon’s mom Mayumi Heene was on the show wife swap twice (the family was one of four families viewers choose as a favorite and in March the Heene’s were aired a second time).with her family.

The Heene’s have three boys Bradford, Ryo, and Falcon. The family lives life on the edge, and do not let life or storms pass them by. The family chases storms together. If any child could survive riding around Colorado in a balloon I believe Falcon Heene is well prepared to handle this situation even at the tender age of six years old.

The balloon which is reminiscent of a large Jiffy Pop popcorn container after being popped was followed in the air until it crashed this afternoon. Falcon Heene was not found. An officer for the Sheriff’s department may have seen something fall off or out of the balloon at one point and it is being reported that at one time there was a basket of sorts attached to the bottom of the balloon (whether the basket was attached before the balloon lifted off or not has not been verified).

After the balloon went airborne it is believed one of Falcon Heene’s older brothers reported seeing Falcon inside the balloon. In my mind it is possible the 6 year old boy somehow released the balloon and being afraid his family would be mad, hid somewhere. I hope the authorities will begin a new search in and around the area the balloon has flown and in and around the home of Falcon Heene. Children can easily hide and get stuck in areas like trunks of cars, toy trunks, etc.

After focusing on the balloon for so long perhaps rethinking the possibilities may prove helpful…

News coverage in and around the Fort Collins Colorado area needs to be encouraging all of the local residents to go outside and look in their yards and around their homes for anything unusual and to keep an eye open for items that may be in a field or along a road that could prove to be the basket that was attached to the balloon. Family and friends need to look to see if little boy is hiding in fear from what may happen if mom and dad find out the balloon is gone. He may have fallen asleep in a hiding place and be unaware of the national attention his story has received.

Falcon Heene where are you?

UPDATE: As I posted this just moments ago…
CNN news announced that Falcon Heene has been found. ALIVE! Falcon was hiding in a box in the attic above the garage? Seriously?! I am curious how the house was not torn apart looking first for a six year old who went missing.

DNA Identifies Jennifer Schuett’s Kidnapper and Rapist

On August 10, 1990, Jennifer Schuett was just 8 years old when she was raped, and her throat was cut, severing her voice box. She was not expected to live, but she did and unlike many rape victims Jennifer did not choose to forget what happened, but instead burned every minute detail into her memory for the day she knew would come and her abductor and rapist would be found. Jennifer you are incredibly strong, and a true hero to children and women everywhere!

Dennis Earl Bradford is now 40 years old and was arrested early this morning as he drove to work. Unfortunately his wife was in the car with him and I cannot imagine the pain she is now undergoing. I am praying for her to be strong. Thanks to the FBI’s DNA profile of Dennis Bradford from another rape in 1996, forensics was able to match him to the crime scene of Jennifer Schuett’s.

I love forensics! Forensic science is advancing daily, and it is catching criminals who once thought would get off free. DNA and the advances in forensic science are proving ways to solve old, cold cases from child rape and abduction, and even murder. It also exonerates the innocent whom have been wrongly accused.

There is a story in everyone’s DNA. DNA is everywhere and is what in the end will bring someone down who believes he or she is above the law. This time it was a child rapist and kidnapper whom 19 years ago took a little girl out of her bed in the middle of the night, raped her, and left her for dead. Perhaps one day it will find the man whom killed Angie Marie Houseman. I am waiting for that day!
